First Time Riding Tips
TIMM’S TIPS FOR YOUR LEHMAN CONVERSION
Don’t let this list alarm you, it isn’t as long as it may seem. After you ride a bit this will all become second nature to you.
- If you have a trike with fuel injection let the FI light go off before you start the bike.
- When you get on your trike the passenger gets on first and then the driver gets on. Don’t swing your foot to get on as your heel will hit the fender. On a trike you step across the seat.
- The first time you ride the trike you should do figure eights in a parking lot. This will help your mind remember that you have to steer to turn and that you do not lean to steer.
- DO NOT LEAN TO STEER. You literally have to steer the trike with a push & pull motion. Where you steer is where you will go just as you would with a car, four wheeler and snowmobile.
- DO NOT PUT YOUR FEET DOWN. Keep your feet up at all times. If you don’t you could run over you own feet with the rear wheels.
- REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE WIDER. When you pull in for gas, pull along side someone or pull into your own garage remember that you are wider. It is like having a pickup and then getting a dually pickup.
- Use the park brake when you have the bike in neutral and you are letting the bike warm up. Put the brake on hard enough that you don’t drive off and forget that you have the brake on or you will destroy the park brake.
- Please call with any questions regarding rear tire pressure on your trike. 507-932-3477
- If you ever take the rear wheels off, torque them to 85 ft. lbs. when replacing. If you have wire wheels, torque them to 75 ft. lbs.
- Rear air shocks:
If you have a HONDA, start with 10 – 12 lbs. of air pressure in the rear shocks. You still adjust the air pressure from the dash of the trike. After you ride a bit you will determine if you want to change the air pressure.
If you have a H-D, start with 5 - 10 lbs. of air in the rear shocks. After you ride a bit you will determine if you want to change the air pressure. The Schrader valve is located behind the right side cover. When removing the side cover pull out on the front first. Don’t yank it. Rock the cover keeping steady pressure, as they come off hard. DO NOT use an air chuck from an air hose on your shocks as it will blow the lines apart. You must use a Progressive hand pump. They are about $50.00 and we sell them as well as most Harley shops. - Don’t let anyone ride your trike unless you instruct them how to get on, keep their feet up, and to literally steer.
Al will be happy to talk to you about any questions you may have as he wants you to be happy and feel comfortable about riding your new trike.
